Bertie n George - A bailer twine of polo ponies!!!

19 April 2000
Well guess what ... Bertie has a new friend. My horse owenedness has just gone up by 100% ... where there was one there are now two !!! The fields may not look spectacular, but there is clearly some magic in them ... I left one night and next day there was George.

Bert and George seem to get on quite well. They are a right pair ... they deserve each other.

Due to the very short grass in their paddock ... some might have mistaken it for mud ... whenever possible, I like to take Bert (and now George) out for some grass on the road side verges.

Some friends of mine came to visit Bert and George - their ever growing fan club. Guests are always welcome (with carrots) ... these two especially ... the tack has never been so clean !!!

We all went for a hack together ...

For those with a keen eye you will recognise the chestnut on the right is NOT George and is in fact Norway ... a very famous steed from Ascot Park Polo Club ... yup, the very same equine celebrity that taught Hale & Pace to ride and play polo in the BBC TV series Jobs for the Boys.

A fine triplet of quarters. Bertie and George have had their fill of grass ... probably not ... and its time to get ready for polo.

Well it was our first day playing polo on the grass this summer, sorry no photos. Well, we had a nice BBQ and maybe too much to drink ... and under these circumstances what do you do ? ... visit the horses of course.

There is something about horses that they want to stand on top of you whenever you are trying to take a picture of them. Then again, maybe they took offense to being woken up (they looks so funny yawning) and having a camera flash go off every 10 seconds. Actually I think it was the beg of horse sweets I was carrying.

Yet another cross country ... I have no idea where !!!

Yet more evidence that I should give up riding ... Here Hannah is riding Bert, and me George. We can see yet again that the female rider does Bert proud and I look like a plonker - I have no idea what's wrong with my jumping lately. Well if the truth be told ... I actually got very bad groin strain two weeks ago ... hence holding the saddle over the jumps ... maybe the excuse of riding George, in a polo saddle, single handed with groin strain is excuse enough for looking so unprofessional over a jump ... well at least it's an excuse !!!

Bert, we are in a big field full of lovely grass ... so why are we eating from a bale of haylage?

Back in January, when it was my Birthday, a dear friend commissioned my riding instructor to do a painting of Bert and George ... it is finally framed and on my wall at home. It is a fantastic picture ... I have a very tallented riding instructor (She even did some of the artwork for the film "The Mummy" and "The Mummy Returns")
